first_img Make a comment Business News The Prep League and arguably the Pasadena area’s most dominant volleyball player has made her choice.Westridge junior Allison Martinez, a member of the Youth National Team, will play her collegiate ball at Long Beach State.Martinez committed on Saturday after LBSU defeated Hawaii, the nation’s No. 12 team.“I am so excited to play for such a highly respected coach like Brian Gimmillaro,” Martinez said on Tuesday. “I am eager to learn from his vast knowledge and I’m looking forward to playing for a school with a long and rich history of great volleyball. I’ve gone through the last two years of the recruiting process and am so happy to have found my home at Long Beach State.”The first-place Tigers (14-2 overall, 7-1 in league) have been on a roll of late with Martinez leading the way, and they’ll get a chance Thursday at Poly to avenge their only Prep League setback this season. While the future is bright for the outside hitter, coach Otto Lacayo still gets Martinez for the next year-plus as they seek a Prep League and CIF title.“Allison is one of the hardest working athletes I have ever been around,” Lacayo said. “She’s always been working towards bigger things and this program couldn’t be more happy with her commitment to Long Beach State. Shortly after she told the school of her intentions, she was back in the gym getting reps.” 2 recommended0 commentsShareShareTweetSharePin it First Heatwave Expected Next Week Top of the News EVENTS & ENTERTAINMENT | FOOD & DRINK | THE ARTS | REAL ESTATE | HOME & GARDEN | WELLNESS | SOCIAL SCENE | GETAWAYS | PARENTS & KIDS Name (required)  Mail (required) (not be published)  Website  Subscribe Community News faithfernandez More » ShareTweetShare on Google+Pin on PinterestSend with WhatsApp,Virtual Schools PasadenaHomes Solve Community/Gov/Pub SafetyCitizen Service CenterPASADENA EVENTS & ACTIVITIES CALENDARClick here for Movie Showtimescenter_img Get our daily Pasadena newspaper in your email box.
