FRISCO, Texas – Sam Houston State’s Megan McDonald and Stephen F. Austin’s Ashley Kriesel are the Southland Conference Softball Players of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.McDonald made six starting appearances for the Bearkats (9-12) last week, racking up 13 hits, six RBI and a .520 batting average. The senior accounted for a trio of extra-base hits and pushed the Kats to a win over Texas A&M Wednesday evening in game two of a doubleheader in College Station, Texas.Kriesel dealt a perfect weekend for the Ladyjacks (15-4) with a trio of wins over Northern Iowa, Belmont and Central Arkansas at the Shamrock Classic in Conway, Ark. The senior put in 18 innings of work and never surrendered a run, fanning 34 batters and registering a pair of complete games along the way. Against Belmont, Kriesel sat down 15 batters to mark her second game of the season with at least 15 strikeouts.Softball Hitter of the Week – Megan McDonald, Sam Houston State – Sr. – CF – Georgetown, TexasMcDonald had an exceptional week, hitting .520 with a .640 slugging percentage and a .538 on-base percentage in six games against three teams that made the NCAA Tournament last season. The senior captain had five multi-hit games and was 2 for 5 with two RBI to lead the Bearkats to their first win in 25 years over Texas A&M, snapping a 51-game losing streak to the Aggies. She drove in six runs in the leadoff spot for the week and had a pair of RBI doubles in SHSU’s 2-1 win over North Dakota State Friday. She surrendered just six hits all weekend, didn’t allow a run, issued just one free pass and struck out 34 batters.
