Minister for the Diaspora and International Development, Joe McHugh, said this week’s IDA investment and marketing mission to the United States presents opportunities for job creation in Donegal. The visit this week by the IDA and the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Mary Mitchell O’Connor, presents opportunities for Donegal, he said. The investment and marketing programme they will undertake on their 5 day mission is designed to encourage companies from a wide range of sectors to consider creating new jobs in Ireland. “It is important to note that there is already a long history of West Coast investment here in the North West of Ireland, with Seagate employing many Donegal people.“We have a tremendous IDA story in Letterkenny, with globally significant companies like Pramerica, Medisize, United Health Group, Zeus and SITA located here. It is a hugely attractive town for foreign direct investment with easy two hour access to Belfast International Airport, the unique fibre optic link to North America with Project Kelvin and a highly educated workforce thanks to Letterkenny IT,” he said. The Fine Gael Minister said recently visited Silicon Valley myself and the intense engagement there gave him a great insight into the opportunities that continue to develop between the United States and Ireland.“During my visit to San Francisco, I was honoured to participate in the Irish Network USA event. I also met with management in Facebook and LinkedIn, to whom I explained the many attractive reasons for companies to locate in Donegal and the North West. I have also communicated these attributes to Minister Mitchell O’Connor in advance of her visit to the West Coast of the States this week. “As the only Minister in Donegal and the North West, I will keep working to ensure that this region continues to attract valuable high level jobs that will ensure our young people can have a bright and viable future here at home,” he added.Donegal businesses can benefit from IDA mission to US – McHugh was last modified: October 18th, 2016 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)
With very little rain over the past week and the rivers on the drop, the end is likely in sight for the late, fall-run salmon season on the North Coast. The season has been somewhat of a disappointment to fishermen as only a couple major storms hit the coast and dropped enough rain to bring the Smith and Chetco up to ideal levels. While the fishing window was very small, that doesn’t necessarily mean the number of returning salmon was small. Even during the low water conditions, salmon were …
Meat-eating amphibians shaped like crocodiles? Be glad you didn’t live in West Africa 250 million years ago, say scientists at McGill University. Two species were described, one with large and small fang-like teeth, and another with curved horns on the back of its head. The fossils didn’t come with dates on them, and since amphibian phylogeny is a mess anyway (see 09/13/2004 entry, for example), we’ll just leave that part out and pause to wonder again at the richness of extinct biodiversity compared with that of today.(Visited 7 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0
Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest By Matt Hutcheson, CCA, product manager, Seed Consultants, Inc.One issue that impacts soybean harvest in the eastern Corn Belt at some level each year is green stem syndrome. Green stem syndrome could be larger issue for the 2017 harvest because of latter planting dates in many areas. When green stem syndrome occurs, stems and leaves can remain green after pods have matured. As a result, while pods and seeds are mature and dry enough to be harvested, harvest operations can be slowed as combines have more difficulty dealing with stems and leaves that are still green. In addition to creating harvest delays, green stem syndrome can increase fuel consumption and result in shattering losses if growers delay harvest until stems have fully matured. The occurrence of green stems varies from year-to-year and can be affected by several factors, such as:• Viral infections • Insect feeding • Late planting • Drought stress • Application of fungicidesSuccessful management of green stem syndrome requires management practices that include timely planting, establishing adequate plant stands, irrigation, and controlling insects/pests. By making these management practices a priority, growers can minimize the likelihood that green stem syndrome will develop in their soybean fields. Although green stem syndrome slows down harvest, soybeans should be harvested as soon as pods are fully mature in order to minimize harvest losses due to shattering.
audrey watters Last fall, Google Docs users gained the ability to drag and drop files from the desktop to the upload page. Now Google has announced that it will be rolling out a few more features to make that process of uploading even easier. The first new feature will help those who tend to upload a lot of documents: Google has added the ability to upload folders, not just individual files. This upload will actually preserve the folder structure, which means that folders within folders will also be uploaded. The second feature is a UI improvement, merging the upload feature directly into the documents list. This means that the upload settings have changed as well. The first time you use the new method, you’ll be asked whether or not you want the files automatically converted to Google Docs and if you want images converted to text via OCR. When you add new files, a window will pop up to display the upload progress. And finally, you’ll be able to drag and drop directly into the documents list in order to start an upload. This will only work for individual files, not for full folders.A couple things to note: many of these new features work on what Google calls “modern browsers” – Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. Also, you might find that as you upload more and more files to Google Docs that you run into storage limits. You can either delete files or pay for additional storage ($0.02 per GB per month). Google says these new features will be available to users in the next month.
