Credit: Alexa Mavrogianis | Photo EditorIf there’s one word to define an Urban Meyer offense, it’s speed. Since being hired at Ohio State in 2012, the Buckeye offense under Meyer has finished the season twice ranked in the top 10. However, through many different players, Meyer has been attempting to reincarnate one of his greatest weapons from his time at the University of Florida.Former Florida Gator and NFL wide receiver Percy Harvin won two national championships for Meyer, alongside Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow, and was the No. 1 playmaker for Meyer for the better part of two seasons. From Dontre Wilson in 2013, Jalin Marshall in 2014 and Braxton Miller in 2015, Meyer might have finally found his next Percy Harvin in junior H-back Curtis Samuel. And frankly, Samuel might be better. Meyer said on Tuesday’s Big Ten coaches’ teleconference that he believes Samuel should be in the Heisman Trophy discussion with his performance through the first four games.“I think it’s a little harder for those positions to get it, in H-back,” Meyer said. “But he’s certainly having that kind of year that he should be in the conversation.”The last time Meyer had two players in the Heisman race was with Tebow and Harvin in 2008. In Harvin’s 2007 sophomore campaign, he exploded for 764 yards and six touchdowns rushing, and 858 yards and four touchdowns receiving. The next season, before he declared early for the NFL, Harvin finished with 1,304 total yards and 17 touchdowns. While Samuel has eight games left in the regular season to rack up those numbers, he’s already on pace to surpass Harvin’s junior-year stats.Samuel has 673 total yards and five touchdowns through four games this season, compared to Harvin’s 461 total yards and five touchdowns through his first four games in 2008. To be fair, Samuel has had 18 more touches than Harvin did at this point, but the two are nearly identical in average yards per touch.Harvin was all over the field for Meyer back at Florida, much like Samuel. But unlike Harvin, and Buckeyes in the past Meyer tried to put into the role, Samuel has shown the ability to run between the tackles. Redshirt junior quarterback J.T. Barrett is fairly similar to Tebow in his ability to takeover a game almost at will. Albeit in different styles, Tebow went to Harvin often, just like Barrett’s trust in Samuel.Meyer has always put trust into his quarterbacks and his playmakers, but what makes Samuel even more impressive when comparing him to Harvin is that OSU has a legitimate 1,000-yard running back in redshirt freshman Mike Weber. After the first game against Bowling Green, Weber and Samuel combined for 220 yards rushing, prompting Weber to equate the backfield duo to Lendale White and Reggie Bush, who accounted for an asstounding 3,042 rushing in 2005.At the time, it sounded ridiculous, but could it really happen? Could Weber and Samuel somehow be this good, and could Samuel be in the Heisman Trophy race?Statistically speaking, yes, both of those could happen. However, Harvin, Bush and White all performed at high levels for more than one season. For now, Samuel still has to live up to the expectations of following Braxton Miller and every other player to be named Meyer’s No. 1 playmaker.“I feel like both at receiver and at running back (I’m best utilized),” Samuel said. “I can be at running back and go against a linebacker, which is a mismatch, or I can go to receiver and be against a corner or safety, which I feel is still a mismatch.”

Mercedes-Benz Like so many automakers, Mercedes-Benz has a mission to electrify its lineup of vehicles in the near future and future powertrain technology won’t be reserved for just the top end of the spectrum. On Monday, the brand revealed the A-Class plug-in hybrid with a claimed estimated electric range of 40 miles for European markets.Donning the “EQ Power” badge, which denotes any electrified Mercedes-Benz vehicle, the A250e will be available as both a hatchback and sedan. On this side of the Atlantic, we’re only treated to the A-Class sedan, and on that note, it’s unclear whether the company plans to bring the A-Class plug-in to these shores. Considering the brand’s push to electrify more vehicles with mild-hybrid tech, it seems inevitable. As mentioned, Mercedes-Benz said the A250e will go 40 miles purely on electricity, though that figure comes on the notoriously liberal New European Driving Cycle scale. The EPA scale would likely peg the real-world electric driving range around 20 miles. Providing the electric power is an electric-motor generator married to the 1.3-liter inline-4 engine. A 15.6-kWh lithium-ion battery packs the charge. With both the electric motor and engine working in concert, the A250e makes a total of 218 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. Power flows through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission to the front wheels only.Mash the throttle and Mercedes-Benz quotes a 0-62 mph time of 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 146 mph. Try the same motions with just the electric power and the top speed falls to 87 mph. After a day of driving, it’ll take just an 1 hour and 45 minutes to charge the A250e on a standard outlet, but thankfully, the plug-in hybrid accepts DC fast charging. Plugged in to a DC fast charger, 80% charge comes in around 25 minutes.Mercedes-Benz touts this plug-in hybrid technology as its smartest yet. The third-gen system includes intelligent packaging to make space for the electrified part of the powertrain. Specifically, the exhaust under the vehicle floor and doesn’t run to the rear. The brand said this helps save a tremendous amount of space in the trunk — a major issue when packaging plug-in hybrid powertrains. For Europe, the system also includes route-based operations. Translation: The car knows when it enters a zero-emission area and will run on electricity only. The A250e was unveiled alongside the B-Class plug-in hybrid and both of them will make up 20 plug-in hybrids offered by 2020. Much acclaimed poet and author Keki N Daruwalla launched his new book – ‘Daniell Comes to Judgement: New and Vintage Daruwalla’, a collection of short stories at The India Habitat Centre in the national Capital recently. Most of the stories are written from a woman’s perspective – a woman’s voice, moods and memories – in a span of less than two months. ‘Bars,’ a new story, is a commentary on the strains of intolerance staining the social fabric. Also Read – Add new books to your shelfThe collection includes stories where fantasy and myth transport one to the pre-language, pre-script era – to amphibious trains and an island of birds. In short, the master storyteller weaves his magic yet again. “I don’t know how the matter of writing from a woman’s voice came to my mind, but in case of some of the stories you can see, if I would have written them in a man’s voice, (the husbands voice for example) it would not have been a short story,” said Daruwalla, who has written over 12 books and had published his first novel ‘For Pepper and Christ’ in 2009. “Keki writes in a reflective way about an India of which he is extremely affectionately disposed towards. He likes the people he is writing about and he communicates himself,”said writer and publisher, Ritu Menon, present during the book-launch along with academic, food critic and historian Pushpesh Pant.Keki’s writing is mostly concerned with rural India but in this new book, he concentrated on the urban scenario. When queried about the reason, he said, “Prose writing is all about what you know and what you come across. It is the characters we meet and the kind of situation that you can write on.”

Categories: Roberts News 26Apr Rep. Roberts sponsors resolution to reduce regulation of portable gas cans Resolution encourages Congress to repeal EPA standards for designState Rep. Brett Roberts shows the House Natural Resources Committee the changes made to the design of portable fuel containers because of EPA standards adopted in 2009.State Rep. Brett Roberts spoke before the House Natural Resources Committee today in support of a resolution he introduced to stop the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from overregulating the design of portable gas cans.In an effort to reduce evaporation from portable fuel containers, the EPA has required containers manufactured since 2009 to feature a permeation barrier and new spouts that close automatically.“The problem is the EPA’s regulations do more harm than good,” Roberts said. “The new containers aren’t effective because they don’t have vents, which creates a slow, uneven flow of fuel that frustrates users. Additionally, the new rigid spout designs don’t allow for easily filling gas tanks such as those in vehicles and lawnmowers.”Roberts’ resolution urges Congress to repeal the standards set forth by the EPA.“The EPA adopted these regulations without properly accounting for the real-life application of the changes,” Roberts said. “It’s time to do away with the changes.”The Natural Resources Committee overwhelmingly approved the resolution. It now moves to the full House for consideration.###
